The Poppy

Flanders' fair flower--
Neglected, yet still it stands;
Bent, but not broken.

  3. Okay, I didn't realize you were writing all these poems! They're great! I love me a good haiku. And I love poppies, too.

So your computer. I'm really sorry if you've lost your electronic lives with your hard drive. Truly.

Here's what I found out. Keep in mind I use a Mac so that may change some things. Also, the list I had with prices and stuff has disappeared so I may be a off just a little.

I'm not sure where you live exactly, but there's a store called Micro Center that is amazing. http://www.microcenter.com/ We've gotten great deals both internal and external hard drives there. They also have a good service department and do data recovery as well. Best Buy's Geek Squad also does data recovery. We were told by a friend/computer nerd to go to one of those places rather than send it out to one of the special data recovery centers. I want to say those places charge a couple hundred bucks to recover your data.

However, in case of extreme hard drive failure (i.e. mechanical failure--like, your hard drive is making unnatural clicking noises), the Geek Squad, etc. admitted they are not equipped for the job. First though, do not try booting up again ever, or let anybody else. I'm sure you know this, but I didn't. The Apple Store referred me to a place called Drive Savers Data Recovery, who specialize in recovering data in cases of mechanical failure. Their number is 800.440.1904. http://www.drivesaversdatarecovery.com/ They were really helpful and will check your drive and give a free estimate--free shipping included--before you decide if you want to spend the money to save your data. They may also be able to give you more information regarding the problem in general, they were that helpful and nice.

I haven't sent our old hard drive to them yet, but will eventually to see what kind of estimate they give back. They charge anywhere from $700 - 2500. It makes me sick, but I couldn't find any other place that would touch our hard drive. Also, the DriveSavers business card I got from Apple says to reference DS80100 for a discount. That may only work if Apple refers you, but you should give it a try.

Good luck! May your outcome be better and cheaper than mine.

  7. Em--

Who did you think was writing the poems? I promise I will put up some other stuff as well, but after I posted my first one, my sister (who is an English professor) challenged me to do four more. I'm glad that you liked it. I really appreciate the comments and feedback.

Also, thanks for the tips with DriveSavers. I'm also checking with Seagate since it's a Seagate drive and still under warranty (supposedly). I probably should have bought an Apple instead!

I hope that both of us are able to get our data back!

I'll take it as a compliment that you think that this is good enough to sell! :) Happy Sunday and Happy Halloween tomorrow!!

  10. Kaari--

I came up with another little jingle. You'll have to let me know if you think it's good enough to sell to anyone...

    N-K-O-T-B
How I love thee! Let me count...
    (This will take a while)!

    :)
